My self-inflicted life

I have not been able to convince anybody else of this, but I love being able to speak reminders, appointments, whatever and have them jotted down in the appropriate place. Especially being able to Jott Remember the Milk is a dream come true (albeit a sad and small one). When I remember I need to do something I can just Jott it right then and its on my to do list which then syncs everywhere. I forget a lot less things I am supposed to do.

You know you live in an interesting neighborhood when “the crazy lady who lives across the street” is not specific enough.

If I see one dude on a talk show touting his book about how it’s unnatural for men to be monogamist, I’m forcing them to provide a night of free lap dances at Crazy Girls. This is such a stupid idea to advance backed up by pretty much no data.

Yeah, some guys are not meant to be monogamist and they should know that about themselves and stay that way (and clue their partners in too), same with some women. No harm, no foul, let’s try to not make them artificially pair up and have children when it all gets really complicated and rarely makes for a good emo song.

But for me, monogamy comes very naturally. Does that mean that I am never attracted to other woman, no, nor is my wife never attracted to other men. But also I am extremely attracted to my wife in ways that I could never be unless we were in a monogamous relationship.

Does this have to do with the fact that I am 42 and not 22, probably. I was monogamous then as well, but it did feel unnatural (though clearly the right thing to do, plus I am just really shitty at lying/sneaking around).

Seriously, let’s just put away any sentence that begins with “Men are” or “Women are”. Even if that sentence is “Men have penises” you don’t have to look very far to see that is not quite such a hard and fast rule as you think. Of course I can say “Woman earn less than men for the same jobs.” but that’s not a statement about women so much as a statement about society.

So if you want to cheat on your wife, cheat on your wife, knock yourself out (no really, a good, clean, concussion that sends you to the hospital) but don’t try to write a book and tell me what is and is not natural for me. Men hate that.
